It is known fact the fiberglass irritates the skin. Image the link particles in your lungs. You do not want to inhale fiberglass particles. Long term exposure will have bad health effects. Do not breathe it in. We use a WRB (Weather Resistant Barrier) to "seal" off the fiberglass insulation in the wall. This reduces the air movement in the wall, keeps the cavity closed, and stop the tiny fiberglass particles from going airborne while allowing air and vapor to pass through. We used it in the basement so the wall can continue to breathe. Since we spend a good amount of time down there, and will continue to do so as we live here. it's good to seal off the fiberglass insulation. You can use Typar or any other WRB. I went with Tyvek since it has a perm rating in the 50's. My goal is not to make this waterproof, but to allow anything that could get wet to dry out while sealing the fiberglass inside. DO NOT use that plastic vapor barrier, as it does not breathe and is not vapor permeable. I sealed off the 3 edges of the outer ring with caulk to get a better effect. Will also stop critters and stuff from nesting and going in and out. Will eventually seal off the top in the end but some work needs to be done there for now. After sealing it off you will notice less dust floating around. Is a lot more comfortable. It will still be dusty until you seal the concrete and do something about the floor above you, but it's definitely better. Tools used: Dewalt composite staple gun: https://amzn.to/2z1nWym - I can recommend this, it works well and it's lightweight. Dewalt hammer tacker: https://amzn.to/2L7HYtT - Also easy to use and light weight - I avoided using it where there was caulk since it just splatters the caulk everywhere Arrow T50 staples: https://amzn.to/2KU0LZn Dap Alex Plus caulk: https://amzn.to/2KU0UMp - Mainly because we had some tubes of it laying around, and we want to be able to remove it later. Contrary to all the logos on the WRB, this video was not sponsored.
